Response to Mike Birbiglia's.. Error at First Base

Mike Birbiglia's, "Error at First Base" was a very interesting podcast. In Error at First Base he tells the story of his first kiss.  Being a comedian he tells the story in a comedic way. While he was in 7th grade a lot of his classmate were losing ,what he called their "mouth virginity". Everybody was making out , it was the "thing"to do in 7th grade. Mike was one of the kids who has not lost their mouth virginity so to do so he asks Lisa, a girl he liked,to go on a date with him to the carnival, where he plans to do his first kiss. Being nervous he eats a lot of junk and goes on a ride and vomits and does not get his kiss. Later on in high school he gets his kiss at a dance with a girl named Sonja.

I think the point of his story was to tell us that you are never alone although at times you may feel excluded. Biriglia felt alone because no one wanted to kiss him, he also felt excluded because he was not in the "make-out"club. When he has his first kiss he finds out the next day that Sonja thought he was the worst kisser that she ever kissed and then is friend stood up and said "I'm a bad kisser too", that's when he realized he was not alone. Listening to his story made me think of my first kiss. I was brought up in a very strict household so boys and I hanging out hardly ever happened. So, while my friends were hanging with boys; I was home. I kinda felt excluded because I had not had my first kiss and I wanted one badly. I do not remember what grade I was in when i had my first kiss, but it was with this boy and I kissed him at a football game when he gave me his jacket to wear because I was cold. The kiss was not planned nor awkward but nice. After the kiss I realized that a kiss is just a kiss and that I what I thought I was excluded from really did not make a difference. The best kiss are the non-planned ones and when you get it, you get it.
